The Chair is part of a series
of video works which explore connections and gaps between officially stated facts
and personal experiences of historical events. Schwindt
has used her own position as the second-generation post Nazi Germany as a
starting point to investigate such concerns and members of her family to find
alternative perceptions of historical events.
Schwindt studied at the University of Westminster and the Slade School of Fine
Art in London. She has exhibited nationally and internationally;
group shows include EASTInternational in Norwich, S1 Salon at S1 Artspace in Sheffield, UK, Jeune
Creation in Paris, France and Territories, Identities,
Nets at the Museum of Modern Art in Ljubljana, Slovenia. She has received the Boise
Travel Scholarship to produce a work in NYC next year and is currently
participating in the Associate Artist Program at LUX and the Development
program at Film and Video Umbrella in London.
