VILLA VARVARA

Helen de Main is a British artist based in Glasgow, where she completed her MFA at the Glasgow School of Art in 2008.

Her work looks at ideas associated with public space, architecture and development and the relation these have to power, movement and control within in urban and rural environments in an attempt to understand the effects that objects in our surroundings can have upon humanity. Often taking initial inspiration from photographing on location, these images are then reinterpreted and remade, manifesting themselves as sculpture and works on paper.

Her work has recently been shown in exhibitions in the UK and internationally, including Mid Penine Gallery, Burnley, Artnews Projects, Berlin, Emerged, Glasgow, akau inc., Toronto, Galerie 5020, Salzburg, and Site Gallery, Sheffield.

She is currently developing a series of exhibitions with Danish artist Maj Hasager that will be presented in Ramallah, Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Copenhagen and Glasgow in 2010.
